Precepts offers a unique crossword puzzle experience for those who hold a deep appreciation for the teachings of the Bible. It serves as both an educational tool and an engaging game that fosters spiritual growth in individuals of all ages.

How to Play

The game is structured similarly to traditional crossword puzzles, where players score points by forming words derived from the Holy Bible in a crossword format, either horizontally or vertically. Strategic placement on one of the five bonus squares amplifies point totals. Precepts incorporates not only common English words mentioned in the Bible, but also terms exclusive to it, including the names of biblical figures, places, and book titles. Players are assessed on their biblical knowledge through a measure known as the Bible Quotient, which encompasses two scoring scales: points earned from correctly spelled words and additional Talents awarded for accurate citations of biblical references. Achieving a Talent, represented as a golden coin, requires forming the name of a biblical character on the Thummim (7TH) premium square. The official word list comprises 22,712 terms sourced from twelve English translations of the Holy Bible.

Unique Game Challenge Levels

The challenge escalates as players advance through various spelling fields, transitioning from easier grey fields to more complex light blue and dark blue fields.

Improve Your Skills

The “Teacher” feature enhances gameplay by revealing optimal word formations after each turn. For moments when players may struggle to find suitable words, there are up to five opportunities for the game to suggest the “Best Word” for their turn. Additionally, participants can browse through a built-in dictionary specifically designed for Precepts.

In-app purchases are available for features such as Teacher, Best Word, and Cite, priced respectively at $0.99, $1.99, and $2.99.

Leader Board

Players can monitor their ranking through a leaderboard displaying usernames and unique avatars for the top 100 participants. Ranking is determined first by the number of Talents collected and then by overall game points. By tapping on an avatar, users can access individual profile pages of leading players.
